Reverend Monsignor William J. Capik Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship fund has been established to honor Reverend Monsignor William J. Capik - Principal at Holy Cross High School from 1967 to 1972 - who passed January, 27, 2024.

"Hear with favor our prayers, which we humbly offer, O Lord, for the salvation of the soul of Monsignor Capik, your servant and Priest, that he, who devoted a faithful ministry to your name, may rejoice in the perpetual company of your Saints. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. AMEN

 

Contributions made in the name of Reverend Monsignor William J. Capik provide scholarships and tuition assistance to students at Holy Cross Preparatory Academy.

About Reverend Monsignor William J. Capik

​

Msgr. Capik was Principal at Holy Cross High School from 1967 to 1972, and served the Catholic Church as a priest for over 68 years.

​

Msgr. William John Capik was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on January 12, 1930. He attended St. Charles High School Seminary, Catonsville, MD and St. Mary Seminary, Baltimore, MD. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Trenton on June 4, 1955. He served at St. Ann Parish, Hampton, NJ and St. Anthony Parish, Hightstown, NJ before serving as Athletic Director of Notre Dame High School, Trenton, NJ, then Principal of Holy Cross High School, Delran, NJ. He served as Pastor at St. Michael Parish, Trenton, NJ and St. Peter’s Parish, New Brunswick, NJ before becoming Pastor of St. James Parish in Basking Ridge, NJ in 1981, just before the Diocese of Metuchen was created. He retired from active ministry in 2005.

For 18 years, Monsignor served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ as well as various diocesan roles and on many committees, and as a mentor to first-time pastors. In retirement, he regularly assisted parishes by being available for Masses and Confessions. In addition to his love for serving Jesus and the Church, he was also an avid golfer, reader, and loved spending time with family and friends.
