Holy Cross Preparatory Academy is a private, Catholic, college preparatory school whose mission is to inspire young men and women to become resilient leaders and lifelong learners through wisdom and holiness. Educational Philosophy

An effective teacher is one who:

  • seeks to understand students as individuals, honoring cultural differences

  • recognizes the inherent value present in all people as children of God

  • models the school’s mission and vision in their daily words and actions

Planning and Preparation

An effective teacher is one who:

  • has a comprehensive understanding of the content to be taught

  • utilizes lessons and outcomes based upon best-practices pedagogy

Instruction

An effective teacher is one who:

  • demonstrates skill in engaging students in learning the content

  • utilizes questioning techniques to inspire curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking

  • facilitates meaningful discussion surrounding course content

  • includes instructional strategies that enable students to learn by communicating clearly and accurately

  • shows flexibility and responsiveness

  • provides timely, useful feedback and assessment to guide student growth

Professional Responsibilities

An effective teacher is one who:

  • shows professionalism, compassion, and understanding in communication with parents

  • responds in a timely manner to communications from parents, students, and colleagues

  • is punctual in all matters pertaining to their duties as a teacher

  • maintains accurate records regarding student achievement, behavior, and communication

  • volunteers at school and community events, such as Open House, sporting events, and school fundraisers

  • contributes to student life within the school by participation in clubs/activities, coaching sports, or otherwise getting involved

Professional Growth

An effective teacher is one who:

  • reflects on lessons and teaching in order to improve their practice

  • seeks out opportunities for professional development

  • is open to learning and utilizing new technologies in the classroom

  • accepts feedback from colleagues and supervisors
